Department of Airspace Control - Brazil

We are a governmental organization, subordinate to the Ministry of Defense and to the Brazilian Air Force, that gather human resources, equipment, accessories and media infrastructure - distributed throughout the national territory - aimed to establish security and fluidity of the air traffic in our sovereign airspace and, at the same time, ensure its defense.

Our organization supply the Brazilian State as one of the pillars on which rests the air transportation in the country, cooperating and sharing arrangements with the segments of civil aviation and airport infrastructure to guarantee the safety, mobility and effectiveness.

We are organized as a Department - Department of Air Space Control - and represent the country in international forums, honoring the many operational and technical agreements signed by Brazil with the international agencies that regulate the activity.

We have an important role in the world’s airspace control, since we are a significant portion of it - 8.5 million square kilometers of sovereign space, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, as a huge door that opens to Africa, Europe and the Middle East from South America. This geo-strategic position grants Brazil an important role in the global air transportation, coming into view as one of the ten country members of the ICAO´s international Council, since its founding.

The Department of Airspace Control is a vital support of the Brazilian air transportation, working 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and directly contributing to the social and economic development.

Mission
The Department of Airspace Control (DECEA) is responsible for the management of all the activities related to the safety and efficiency of the Brazilian airspace control. Its mission is to manage and control the air traffic in the Brazilian sovereign airspace as well as to guarantee its defense.

As the main organization of the Brazilian Airspace Control System (SISCEAB), DECEA plans and approves the deployment of equipments and systems and oversees technical and operational organizations responsible for activities related to SISCEAB.

DECEA provides services such as Aeronautical Information System (AIS), Air Traffic Management, Aeronautical Cartography, Search and Rescue, Aeronautical Meteorology, Information Technology, Flight Inspection, and Aeronautical Telecommunication.
